Hi Guys I'm new here but have read quite a few posts regarding my problem Having just bought a 2001 Grand Voyager and thought i knew what the problem was, having read the relevant posts. How wrong i was Doh my problem is that that the front and back blowers don't work unless i press the PWR button the the heaters works fine. Both front and back and in all positions etc. Having read various post it appeared that I needed a new Blower Resistor, which was behind the glove box on the passenger side as described. I therefore ordered the art from the Chrysler dealer here in Sheffield. However once i got the part home it was not the same as the one fitted but the the connection terminals were the same I therefore fitted the new part and turned on the heater but no blower still the PWR button and heater worked as before. I have therefore enclosed 4 pics of the old resistor and 4 pics of the new resistor, in that order I have spoken to the main dealer who supplied the part and they say given the part number I gave them. The new part supersedes the old one and they are to all intense and purposes the correct part. No idea if this applies to Euro spec vans but on US spec vans the ground to both front and rear blowers relays is controlled by the Front Control Module (FCM) mounted on the front of the IPM (fuse box). That is the only thing front and rear have in common.

Yes, that is the correct part in the pics. The old one with the cage was superseded by the one without the cage.

That's the way it's supposed to work. Power button on the left end of the control head correct?

And yes that is an updated part. It's correct.

Yes the PWR button on the left but this runs the individual heater which runs independently of the engine and uses diesel fuel.

What I'm trying to understand is why the heater blower will not work on its own. If the blower motor had gone surely, then it wouldn't work when you pressed the power button.

Am i right in presuming that the two wires that go to into the heater housing are the feed to the motor/fan. If so I will check for a positive feed.

If there is a positive feed!...?

I take it, its going to be a housing removal job, to check the motor/fan.

Is there any way I can check the relay's in the IPM Fuse box I've noticed there are two relay's marked Front and Back Blower.

Sorry I'm not trying to bump this post up just adding a bit more info or should i say trying and explain a bit better what the problem is as i suspect ive not quite made it clear what my problem is.

The Blower will only work on high, when i press the PWR button on the left.

If I turn the heater blower control on its own nothing works at all.

When I press the PWR button there is an independent heater which is underneath on the outside which fires up.

I'm presuming that I should be able to turn the heater control to mid or high with out the PWR button and this will blow hot or cold air from the engine without activating the individual cab heater. Or have i got it wrong does the PWR button have to be pressed all the times. (This is the first Grand Voyager I have had so not fully sure)

If so having read all the various posts on this and watched the youtube vids the heater control working on high only, is indicative of a broken blower resistor. Having replaced the resistor I find that is the same. To me I'm thinking this can only mean that either:


A) The resistor is faulty even though its new (now that I've established it is the right part and that is does supersede the original part)

B) the relay has gone

But have i missed something else? does anyone know of something else i should be checking? I found a Youtube vid on how to test the relay points with a Multimeter on the IPM.

Not sure how to check the resistor or what reading i should get with a multimeter but i will get it checked.

Basically what I'm asking is, am I right in my understanding or have i got it wrong?

Rite Guys Time for an update with a twist. Heater is now functioning properly and the Blower resistor has solved the problem with the heater on low/Mid and high setting.

The confusion was caused by the fact that when ever I press the PWR button the diesel heater always comes on and stays on.

From what I've read this should only come on till the engine warms up and then go off. I can therefore only assume that there is a faulty sensor somewhere. I therefore have a few more questions.

My temperature gauge is currently running at a Quarter Is this correct for a 2.5 CRD?

Is the sensor for the cab heater coupled with the engine thermostat or is it a separate sensor?

to stop the heater running (under car) set the hot/cold control to 3/4 of the way up then it wont fire up it will only fire up when set to full heat
as for the temp guage it should be around half way therefore you have a inoperative thermostat dont go to chrysler as they will want £140
take a look on that AUCTION site a fraction of the cost and are the same brand as the originals
however they are not the easiest to do i did mine and another forum members car on the same day took most the day to do the pair of them

oh forgot to add mine is a 2002 and the other one i did was a 2001 the only difference between the two was the 2001 had a blanking bolt in the back of the stat housing and had the pipe from the expansion bottle went to the metal coolant pipe right hand side of engine by expansion bottle
my 2002 had a plastic pipe where the blank was and the pipe from expansion went onto this

checked out the auction site thanks for the pointer. I hadn't realised that the thermostat was a complete housing, I had figured on the UK type, domed cover three bolt fixing, pop the dome, pull out the old one, drop new one in, new gasket, tighten bolts Oh well i guess that's how it goes.

Rite well I think I'm gonna try flushing the cooling system first with some Rad-Flush, then totally drain the cooling system. See if that sorts the problem out. If its still the same then its gonna have to be a new thermostat.

I will post back and let you know the outcome
