Default 1999 chrysler intrepid tranny problems after swap

Hi there i was wondering, i just swapped a 99 intrepid 2.7 with a 98 intrepid 2.7, 99 was blown, i took the tranny with it, the plug by the tranny dipstick was different from the 98 to the 99, so i replaced the plug, all the wires are at the same place and the same color. now, the dash shift indicators are all lit up and the tranny does not shift gears, it goes in reverse, forward but seems like its stuck in second and wont shift up or down, even manual shifting does not work, i swapped the tcm and the ecm to match the engine not the car, same as original computer, parn neutral switch works casue i got reverse lights and it will not start in gears only parn and neutral... any ideas? thank you

OK, the problem has to be with your wiring swap or the vehicle it's self (fuse or tcm relay). 98 had round pin connector and 99 is flat blade connector.

just because you have the same wire colors doesn't necessitate that they are going to the same place.

Is it safe to assume 99 trans is good?

Is it safe to assume the 98 electrical system was working fine?

Is it safe to assume that you didn't pinch or short/ground any of the wires in the range selector wire harness?

A little theory: the neutral safety and reverse lamp cirucuts are separate from the PRNDL indicator and TCM input for gear selection.

Yes you are in 2nd gear forward, that's the default if there's an electrical or mechanical problem that prevents the transmision from functioning correctly.

Do you have access to a real scanner (not a cheapo walmart code reader). this will greatly help with your problem as you will be able to see what the TCM is seeing.

The PCM has nothing to do with your problem, so put the original back in the car along with the original TCM. when you start throwing stuff at a problem, you'll compound the situation.

I attempted to attach the 2 wiring diagrams. see if this helps, compare wire colors to pin numbers. I'm not taking the time, you can do this. if you can't read it, see if you can find someone with shop manuals or go to your local library and see if they have online shop programs like Mitchel on demand or shop key.
