Unhappy 98 T&C Nightmare / Help much appreciated

98 Chrysler Town & Country 3.8 L Lxi with 113,000 miles

The problem started out as a surge/jerk at highway speeds. We had issue with the battery about the same time which turned out to be a bad cell. The surging/jerking got worse then the engine stalled and would not restart until it cooled down. Then it would barely run when you give it any throttle trying to accelerate it just jerks real bad. Our local mechanic has received several different codes and changed the camshaft position sensor, idle air control motor, crankshaft position sensor, a coil pack, camshaft position sensor again (thinking the first one was bad) and finally replaced the computer. It is still doing the same thing most of the time it is ok until the engine heats up then the problem starts happening. The service manager and the owner of the shop said they have spent hours upon hours testing wires and such and running scans and are stumped and don't know what to do. It has been there for a month and my wife really needs it. If anyone has experienced these same problems or can offer any advice PLEASE RESPOND. Myself, my wife and my repair shop would really appreciate it.

I will have to check with them. I know the very first one it gave me was P0505 for the idle air control malfunction. When we brought it to them the first code they found was for the camshaft position sensor. Thats what they changed first.

My Haynes book says that one is P0340 (No cam signal at pcm) unless there is another one for the cam sensor. I will ask

I could not seem to get any definate answers concerning the codes. It seems like maybe they didn't write them down or keep record of them. It has been sitting in the same spot for 2 weeks now and I really don't think they are even trying anymore. Last time I went in and talked to them they said they didn't know what to do.

One thing I did forget to metion in the original post and maybe it will be helpful----Not to long after we started having these problems the speedometer and tachometer stopped working. They started working again the next time we started the van up.
