Default 2005 T & C key question

I bought a 2005 Town and Country but it only came with one key.
Do I have to go to the dealer and pay an arm and a leg or is there a cheaper alternative?
Can I just get a key cut and do without the remote?
Will a key without the remote fob work, is there theft deterant in the fob

Any advice is greatly appreciated

You can have a "GRAY-TOP" transponder key cut, but it would still need to be programmed to the car....

It is a cheaper alternative, but it IS NOT going to be a five dollar "HARDWARE STORE" key.
There are situations where an ENTRY key is desired, in which case the "Black top" plain old hardware store key can be used, but it wont START" the car.
How recently did you buy it....??? Many times I have seen a customer in your situation who called the selling dealer of the car, and arrangements were made to offset the price of the second key...It happens all the time..

If You wanted Dealership Service, You wouldnt Go To "Discount Quik Lube" , So why did you Walk into a dealership Expecting QUIK LUBE PRICING????

Ma'am, It costs so much money, because ...I CAN, And you CANNOT, And It matters Not to Me, Because I HAVE A RIDE HOME.

Your buttons are on the key???? Or on a seperate fob?

Default 2005 T & C key

Private deal so I am responsible,
I budgeted $100 from the dealer but if I can do it cheaper, I would like that
6 buttons are on the fob
one for each side door and the rear gate
lock, unlock and panic

Thought it might be like GM where you can get a salvage yard fob and program it

Thanks for the quick response

The transponder is in the key.

A fob from another van is fine. Read your owners manual, you can program the fob on your own IF there is already one programmed to the van.

If it's FOB and KEY together as one unit..no way, you'll have to get a new one and get it programmed by a dealer or any place that subscribes to Techauthority...as in a locksmith or very scattered independent shops.

This is where my confusion came in...I asked the wrong question.
If the Key and Fob are a single unit, a "Gray Top " skim key may be used.

The "Gray-Tops" are Transponder keys, without the RKE functions, But require the same programming as a RKE/SKIM combination...
