Default 2013 300 base HVAC issue(and venting..no pun intended)

I have a 2013 300 base/ I love this car. I travel 70 miles per day for work, I manage a travel baseball team and put on a lot of miles for that. Its roomy, still has luxury, I'm a big guy and fits me, fits my baseball equipment, and still get great gas mileage. As of today, it has just under 41,000 miles on it.

In October last year, I got a recall notice for the alternator. About the same time, I started to notice that my HVAC system would either run super hot, or super cold. If it was 49 degrees outside and it was on any temp but LO, it would be hot. If it was on LO, it would be super cold. I would have to turn the system on and off to kind of reset it to get it back to finding the right temp for comfort. I called the Folsom Chrysler dealer and they told me I should bring it in, but the recall could take over a day due to amount of people coming in. So I kept putting it off. In February(I know, I put it off a long time). Still having the same issue, and knowing it was going to start getting hot here, I made an appointment for March. My car just turned 37,000 miles. I did not even think it was not covered under warranty anymore. I brought it in, and they told me it would be $175 fee to diagnose, and then $85/hr there after. I couldn't afford it.

Now, it was 108 yesterday and supposed to be 111 today. The LO turns on, but will not go into MAX AC, so does not blow hard at all. When I press the Recirculate button, which should get that blower up to maximum power(it used to freeze my face), it flashes and then goes off. It will not turn on.

Any ideas that a very un-technical guy, can try and fix this so I don't turn into a piece of toast?

Thank you in advance for your help! And letting me vent a little..

-Steve
