Default 3.3 engine oil.

The 3.3 engine in my 2005 calls for 5W20 oil
Can I use 5W30 oil instead. The 5W30 is easier to find in stores
My other van with the 3.3 used 5W30 why the change to 5W20.
Maybe Chrysler Tech knows?

Default RE: 3.3 engine oil.

heres what the chrysler site has to say about you engine, you can use that grade of oil without hurting anything, moe............................................... ...........................................SAE 5W-20 and SAE 5W-30 engine oils are recommended for all operating temperatures. These engine oils are designed to improve low temperature starting and vehicle fuel economy. Refer to the engine oil filler cap for the preferred engine oil viscosity grade for each vehicle (Oil Filler Cap).[/b] SAE viscosity grades are used to specify the correct viscosity oil for an engine. Use only Multi-Viscosity oils such as SAE 5W-20 or 5W-30. These are specified with a dual SAE viscosity grade which indicates the cold (5W) to hot (20, 30) temperature performance range of the oil.

Moe.

Many thanks for your reply.

I checked the owners manual before posting and it made it sound like you had to use 5W20 or else!
Missing is the usual graph showing various oil grades to use depending on outside temperature.
A friend directed me to another form which had the following information
It confirms what you have stated. Thanks.

The question was: Would using 10W30 void my warranty.
Answer:A xxxx xxxxxx a spokesperson for DaimlerChrysler Canada, says it is okay to use 5W30-10W30 oil in your 2005 Dodge Caravan.
Michael Salter, an independent Chrysler minivan specialist, says auto makers recommend low-viscosity oils like 5W20 or even 0W20 mainly to improve what's called their Corporate Average Fuel Economy.

Without people like you on forms we would all be kept in the corporate dark.

Appreciated. overthehill.
