Default 300M Starter not engaging

Hi guys....I'm new here and hoping someone can give me some direction on this.

I went out this morning to start my ever reliable 2001 300M and it was dead. The battery was replaced last summer so I put a charger on it and after about 3 hours I could get a high speed clicking (with the dash lights flashing with the clicks) but no starter engaging.

There was no forewarning of any kind, no slow cranking, no dim lights, nothing. I drove home from work yesterday and boom....dead today.

Any ideas?

Thanks Jim
