Default 99 concorde engine and transmission problems

I have a 1999 Chrysler Concorde with about 100,000 miles on it, it has worked excellently until recently when it began to die while i was driving it, it dies both while idling and while driving. Also, the check engine light is on. I took it to a mechanic and when he tried to read the code it showed no problems, he checked multiple things on the car but could not find the problem, he suggested I might need a new computer board, I decided to hold off for a few days, and now in addition to the previous engine problem the transmission has begun to slip from 4th to 3rd and occasionally from 3rd to 2nd. could the computer board be causing the transmission problems as well as the engine problems? or do i need to replace the transmission as well?

I appreciate any help.

-Josh

first of all the guy u took it to has to be dumb as piss if the light is on there is a code no matter what now if he was not capable of getting the codes because his cheap scanner wont work well then he is still dumb for saying that there is nothing wrong.

Take it to a better place to have the codes read.
