Default tire pressure sensors breaking

My wife has a 2008 Town and Country. We have had two sensors break off at about the edge of the cap. The first broke off in my hand when I was about to remove the cap to add air to a tire which had a slow leak. The second broke when I pulled into a parking lot after driving about 15 miles from a cold start on a day when temps were in the mid 70s. When I parked the car there was no indicator light for low tire pressure, and the tire sidewalls didn't have any sign of having been driven flat, but the tire was flat when I walked around the car, and the end of the sensor, including the valve, was missing. The local Chrysler dealer tells us there hasn't been a problem with this, but my wife is now afraid to drive with these sensor on the car. I believe these sensors are made of aluminum. They are that color and non-magnetic. Are there any after market sensors which are made of brass or other material which would stand up to the road salt which we encounter here in the northeast?

Default 2008 Town & Country Tire Pressure Sensor Breaking Off

On July 10 2011 I had went to the store about 20 miles form home and it was hot around 100 Deg. I went into the store and when I was checking out a lady came in and said that the blue Van tire just went Flat as she walked by. I went out and checked and sure enough it was flat. The Valve Stem broke off right at the bottom of where the cap was screw on.
