Exclamation 2007 Pacifica radio

The radio in our 07 Pacifica has very poor radio reception. Only picks up the very closest staions. We bought the Pacifica at a Honda dealer (used) and they were unable to locate the problem. Radio is not covered under the 30 day warrenty. Where should I start to troubleshoot?

Yes, there is a roof antenna at the rear of the Pacifica. The dealer did check the antenna connections. I had expressed that the radio sounded like the antenna was disconnected. I was wondering if there was an external pre amp between antenna and radio.

Ok.....

Yes you have an external preamp......In the antenna base.

Pull down the Ceiling upholstery, in the rear hatch, and you will find a "COAX CABLE, " for the antenna, and a single red wire going to the antenna base.

The red wire MUST have 12v+ with the car running and the radio turned on...

Disconnect the coax cable, and in "THE CAR SIDE" of the wiring, gently place a coat hanger in the end of the coax. If you reception improves, and you have 12v+ at the red wire, Replace the antenna Base.
