04 AWD Pacifica 99k miles 3.8L

the transmission whines as it goes through the gears. it's seems like the normal sound of a transmission but much louder. certainly not a sound i heard two years ago. slow to upshift. when I come to a stop the car will surge just before it stops. this has been intermittent, but getting to become regular.

have not yet had the trans fluid changed, but manual said for highway miles it was not yet time. i'm no expert but i checked level and it was ok. didn't have a noticeable off smell. no codes.
