Default 1989 LeBaron Turbo1 2.5L Body Control Module goo?

I am in the process of cleaning up my wife's 1989 LeBaron Turbo 1 convertible.
The rains here in Atlanta has turned the inside of her car into a mold factory.
I think the presence of the organic waxes used on the shiny surfaces is allowing the stuff to grow.

While cleaning, I removed the fascia panel around the radio,
diagnostic panel, and the climate control units.
I removed the units and found this beeswax type of goo.
It looks like beeswax but is ten times more sticky.
Alcohol and gasoline seem to be the only solvents that work on it.

I replaced the trip computer about 4 years ago due to a capacitor short
which burned up the module. I think this started the meltdown of
the goo that seems to be in the BCM (Body Control Module).
I did not see the goo when I replaced the trip computer module
4 years ago.
The trip computer is directly under the BCM module which lies under the center of the dash.

I suppose the goo is some sort of epoxy/resin encapsulating the
module. What ever its purpose is, it sure makes a mess when it melts.
It dripped down and covered all the wires and connectors on all of the modules down to the top of the cup holder module.

Has anyone experienced this sort of meltdown of this goo substance?

I hope this module still functions when I finish all of the cleanup. I understand it supplies the mileage info to the speedometer display.

By the way, I'm a newcomer to the Chrysler forums. But, I participate
in the GM Trucks (1991 GMC Suburban) and the Jaguar Forums (1999 XJ8
1994 XJS). The 1989 Chrysler LeBaron is on my bucket list to get
cleaned up so my wife can use it again or sell it.
