Default 78 Newport

What's the deal with the wiper release cam?????. I can't seem to find the correct part to get my wipers working. I bought a kitold part # 2932 869/new part # 3879 325 that looked like the exact same parts i needed but it was hand written that said for 70-77. My local dealer had a old 78 parts book back on a shelf and I looked up the part # from the old book and it listed it as old part # 3799 442. the parts go together like they the old ones did but are about 1/8 toohigh and wont allow the washer and retainer clip to attach. Any help or advice on how to maybee replace the whole wiper transmission to an older setup or see how many others are out there with this same problem

That's something I've never had a problem with. It should be easy enough to just swap it with an older unit, although it's getting harder to find cars that aren't crushed.

Default Mopar P/N 3799442

Hi Kscraker: I know your original comments date from 2009 but better late than never. That kit you bought, 3879325 will not work, even if you try and modifiy the cam bushing by sanding it down a bit. The correct part is 3799442 and this is the wiper arm and cam bushing as a unit even though the arm is listed as P/N 3788437 and the cam bushing as P/N 3799183 BUT Chrysler never sold them as individual parts, only as a unit under P/N 3799442 and it is NLA. I did manage to find a cam bushing and installed it and got my wipers working. After the rainy season, I am going to pull the cam bushing out and a buddy will make copies of it. I just hope it does not fall apart when I take it off. Anyway, I will keep everyone posted as to the outcome. Good luck & I hope you got your wipers working...Jim 78 Newport 2 door - 26K miles - all original.

I've been searching a couple months for a cam bushing, P/N 3799183, for my father's 1977 Gran Fury. Looks like I could also use the 3799442 assembly. Unfortunately, can't find either. I realize this thread is old, but was hoping someone might know where I could find this part.
