Hello
I have a 300m 2000. Now that we're into the hot season, i started trying to use the a/c but it doesn't work. I have setted it into the coldest settings and still, warm air blows out. The outside air is even alot cooler than my a/c. I have it checked at the mechanic and he opens the silver cap with H on it, and puts a key into it, and nothing comes out. He says i'm completely out of freon. He said that, since it's completely out of freon, a leak may be possible, because normal cars would still have a bit of freon left. I don't know these mechanics that well, so I'm asking for suggestion from here. He said he will do a color dye test, so he dyes the air pink for example, and then injects into the compressor. Then we will be able to see where the leak is if there is. That will cost $140. This price does not include fix. Then the freon injection will be $170. So I was wondering, if my freon is completely out, does it mean there is a leak? And how much would it be to replace a new one. As for cost-wise, I'm thinking just fixing it would cost me about $300+? Just dun wanna get ripped off

u are going in the right direction if there is no freeon in the system U HAVE A LEAK. It could ne ne where no guessing at this time. Let him do is job and look for a leak with the dye light and see what he comes up with.. If u feel so intuned u can do this yourself by going to the auto parts store  get 2 cans of 134a freeon a dye injector ket <some cans have dye in them already  just haft to see for yourself> Add the freeon per the instrustions on the can and go from there. Let it run for awhile and see if u can see green dye coming out from ne where. It may take a few days for the dye to show up  all depends on how big of a hole it is. If u live in teh ATL area  I am a cert Chrysler AC tech I would help u out.

I have an '05 300 and the air quit on it. Re-charged it w/ dye and found it was the evaporator which is under the dash and requires 8 hrs to fix it not counting the $360 evap. My buddy who is a Tech says the Chrystler has a major problem with these evaps. He said before he dyed it there was about a 95% chance that it was this Evap. He was right!  So, chances are you may need to look in this direction.

and what is up with stinky air cond?
i had the freon charged in my system, $120. it was very cold again, so glad. Then the next day or so, smelled like dead rat poisoning. Then 2 weeks later, no more freon, the a/c blowed out warm air again. The technician when he was charging the freon for me, told me I had a leak. He took this detector thing, and went in my car, on the center air outlet inside the cabin, it started beeping. He told me I have a leak, but not sure how big it was. I asked if it could be fixed, he said no, the whole system has to be changed, costing roughly $1000. So I thought if the leak wasn't big, I could just charge every year with $120, if it lasted 3 months just for summer.

The question is, why is it so stinky? I'm sure it's the freon, cuz after I thought i ran out of freon, i pop the front hood, open the cap, use my car key and pierced the air valve. The leftover freon hissed out, and MAN, it smelled... dead rat poison. So why is it so stinky? My friends suggest it was air cabin filter. I think it's bad freon. Oh, and can the leak be fixed without changing? Cuz kinda expensive. My freon was gone in 1-2 weeks, so leak is rather big?

ahh way to many questions for one simple deal
U have a leak evap cant fix unless u take out dash. and hvac housing.
2  there is no such thing as bad freon.
3 u will alwase have some pressure in the system even if there is not enough to make it cold.
it stinks because it does  i cant tell u why. a 2000 300m does not have a cabin filter.

Why dont u come down my way and I will fix it for u for 400 plus parts.

I really don''t have a reply just a question. My 2004 300M a/c blows hot air. I just recharged it. no leaks, no bad odor. i can hear the compressor working. What else should i check? Also at this moment i have to to change the camshaft position sensor... would that have something to do with it?

Thank you

It needs an evaporator. All of the LH''s will eventually need one....
