I just purchased a 2007 PT Cruiser with 19,500 miles. My wife and I enjoy the car but I am slightly dissapointed in the performance. We have a 98 Dodge Stratus with a 2.5L 6 cylinder engine. The PT has a 2.4 4 cylinder engine. According to the computer on the PT I am only averaging 21.5 miles per gallon. My Stratus averages 25 mpg. I figured a 4 cylinder should get better mileage. Also the PT has very poor acceleration compared to the Stratus. I guess I shoud have purchased a PT with a 6 cylinder. Any suggestions on increasing performance and mileage would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Drhertz

The Flash TSB option sounds promising, but I have a few concerns before I consider this option. Do both the performance and gas mileage increase or will the gas mileage decrease with this option? Also, what is the approximate cost of this flash option? Thanks for your earlier response.

Don’t know what it will do for fuel consumption the flash is for shift quality improvements. The price should be covered under warranty but is 0.4 time

I''ve got the same issue with my 2007 PT Cruiser. I bought it slightly used just before winter. You can''t expect great mileage in Canadian winter, so I was not too worried thorugh the winter. But since the summer has come, it has not improved very much. My city driving mileage is 12,5L/100km, or about 20 MPG. Too much for the car of that size. Acceleration is OK, but I have a feeling that my 12 year old Dodge Neon with 2,0 L engine will beat the Cruiser. What about this Flash procedure you have mentioned? Can you please give some extra details?

Stuff a K&N air filter in it. My turbo car was only getting about 20mpg while flogging it 50% of the time. I''m still flogging it daily and its pushing almost 25mpg with most of that being city driving.

A K&N replacement air filter is a high-flow; low-restriction type of filter. The easier that an engine can take in air; the more efficient it becomes. The filter is made up of a surgical gause type of material while a standard filter is a pleated paper type which is very restrictive. You can pick one up at any local parts store i.e. O''Reilly Auto Parts, AutoZone, Advance, CarQuest, CSK/Checker. With the way fuel prices are going....getting one of these filters is a must.
