1999 LHS LO beam lights
 

Flashing off and off - lo beams only
Anyone with a fix for this situation?

Turn the key in the passenger door.

When did this start?? Is the car equipped with factory Security??

Two weeks or so ago. And yes it has factory security.

Grand daughter was driving it. She called me saying the lights were going off and on. I recommended using brights.

I could not duplcate. Later, she said same occured. I also found the 'remote key' was inoperative. I unlocked passenger door with key to check for something in glove box. I replaced the battery in remote. It now works fine. My grandson took the LHS to Nashville. Has said nothing about the lights.

What's with the passenger door lock affecting the LO beam headlights??

The lights flash when the alarm is triggered.... The "Disarm" switches are built into the lock cylinders in the door handles

The drivers door will work as well, to disarm the system, but I figured that was TOO obvious and you would have tried already.

The car had been operating for two miles prior to the flashing, She cell-phoned about the dims flashing, I told her to run with brights (as I knew the lens were cloudy) and that satisfied her.

Your info makes good sense. Does the alarm flash the dims only?

Once the car returns from Nashville, I'll become better aquainted with the alarm system

maybe somebody is twisting the headlight switch, and the new position that they put it in has a short.

leaving it on automatic (if there is a short/dirt) can cause the lights to turn on and off.
twisting the knob to 'manual' (if there is a short) can also cause the lights to turn on and off.

also,
adjusting the interior brightness knob.. if the knob is just before the 'click' that switches the parking indicator and odometer lights from day mode to night mode.. that can cause the parking indicator and odometer lights to flicker.
it does that on mine, and i just turn the knob down a little bit more and it stops.


i think the other poster was trying to say, using the other door lock would turn off the alarm system IF the driver's door lock wasnt disabling the alarm.

since you have tried both doors, i would think its the switch.
i dont know how the factory alarm works, but maybe the alarm prevents the car from starting?
the lights should blink and the horn should beep if the alarm goes of.. and thats at the very least.

It has never done it for me and no horn beeped for her. I'll be greatful if I never find out what was going on, but I agree that it was security system related. Thanks for the responces.

i thought, maybe your daughter is adjusting the knob and putting it back to the original position.. which is why you never seen it happen.

the horn works when you push on the button of the steering wheel?
i dont think the headlights have but two methods to turn on.
one is the headlight switch itself.
the other is the alarm system.
if the switch is good, then the alarm computer is going stupid.

i've never ever heard of the alarm computer malfunctioning.
have heard of the headlight switch giving problems for many people.

if you havent already.. try adjusting the headlight switch to something different than the usual setting.
