2.7 Cam Tone Ring Swap

I am converting 2000 2.7 to fit a 2003 vehicle and I was told to change the cam tone ring, can this be done without resetting the timing because there seems to be only two bolts holding it in place?

Thanks, Tony

resetting the timing? what is your idea of resetting it?

I should have Asked, Does it involve taking the timing chain off and resetting the tensioner because I already have the engine back in the vehicle? Seems like I could remove the bolts that hold the cam ring in place while watching which way the camshaft rotates and then remove the old one and install the correct one and then rotate the camshaft slightly to align with the bolt holes? this would save alot of time as I would not have to tear the engine back down.

nope the engine will need to come back apart inorder to do this the tensioner will keep forcing the chain tighter when u release any tension on it and U will not be able to get the chain over the sprockets with out releasing the tension on it.

Got it, so even though the cam sprocket is not coming off, when I loosen the left cam bolts to install the cam ring, the cam shaft will rotate causing the tensioner to tighten up?

plus u will never be able to take the chain off with out having the chain loose any way
