2.7 engine replacement
 

Hello all,
I am new to this forum, so thank you in advance for any advice.

My son has a 2000 Chrysler Concord with a 2.7l engine. It developed a knock at about 1500 rpms and within a hundred miles or so it had a BAD knock even at idle and has now siezed up. Investigation reveals that the oil and filter are contaminated with bearing material (sparkles).

The body and interior are real nice on this car and it may be worth fixing. If I can find a replacement engine in decent shape...is this a DIY job?

I have alot of experience with engine removal and replacment on my older 60's vintage hot rods but not with anything newer. I have tools and an engine hoist.

What am I in for if I do this myself?
Is it a real PITA?
Do you think that it is worth paying $1k labor for someone to do it?

If you've pulled engines, you can probably pull this one. It's front drive, so things are a bit more crowded than those 60's models, but at least the engine is pointed in the right direction. Invest in a shop manual (https://techauthority.gltghosting.co...atalogId=10051) and decide if you are up to it. A thousand bucks is a thousand bucks, and think how much fun it will be on your back under the car skinning your knuckles again.
