96 lhs brakes
 

Hello everyone. I have a 96 LHS. I recently installed new front rotors and new front pads. I also bled all the brakes at the same time . Now, my brake pedal goes to the floor when the car is running. I rebled all 4 brakes again....same result. When the car is off, the brake pedal i fine..when the car is running, the pedal goes to floor. Everything worked fine before I did any of this work. Any ideas ???? Thanks ....Mike

How are u bleeding the brakes?

I am bleeding them by going to passenger rear, driver rear, passenger front, driver front, in that order, and opening bleeder screw and have helper pump the brakes. I have read that possibly I need to have them bled with a scan tool.......I also had a 97 Intrepid with ABS, just like the LHS....never had to use scan tool to bleed those brakes

I need the procedure of how U are bleeding the brakes

My helper gets in the car with it off.He pumps the brake pedal until it is hard and lets off. I then crack open the bleed screw, with one end of a tube on the screw, and the other in a jar of fluid. He pushes the brake pedal down and holds it there. I tighten the screw and we repeat that whole process about 4 times at each wheel. The order is stated in my previous post. I will tell you this.....I have only bled the back brakes once each, but the fronts I have bled 3 times. Obvously, the master cylinder is filled with fluid so air is not introduced into the system. Also, the front pads were down pretty far, so when I compressed the piston back in, there was alot of travel....not sure if that will help you. Also, I do believe that was the first time the front brake pads were changed, along with the first time the brakes were bled. Like I said in my first post, after each bleeding, after the car is started, the pedal goes right to floor....the brakes will stop the car, but there is no way in a panic stop they would work.Also, the car is in mint shape, garage kept, and in the same family its whole life, so the upkeep on the car is perfect.

Pump it up 3X then HOLD the pedal down with force then u crack the bleeder until no fluid comes out close the bleeder then pump it up again repeat for all wheels.
By what u did u introduced air into the system.

I bled the brakes EXACTLY as your last post said....no difference what so ever. No air bubbles at any of the wheels. Went around and did each wheel twice. Is it possible that when I pushed the caliper back in with c-clamp I messed up the rubber seal inside caliper ? You dont think I need to bleed them with a scan tool ? The Chiltons manual does say if ABS equipped, the scan tool is needed.

As for the boot in the caliper yes possible U would get air bubbles out of the bleeder if there was though and no The abs would not be needed unless u disconnected the abs area where air would get in.

This is EXACTLY the way I bled the brakes. Like I said, I get no bubbles. So this being said, is my next step to change the calipers, because that is the only thing that has not been changed at both front wheels?

Changed both front calipers...bled all 4 wheels....fixed the pedal going to the floor
