Concord fuel gage

I have a 98 Concorde and during routine driving, the fuel gage momentarily drops to zero, the yellow low fuel light comes on and gives a "beep", then returns to the normal reading. The digital DTE readout does not seem to be affected. This happens about 25 times during an 8 mile(20 minute) trip at irregular intervals. This started several days ago. The car has 40K miles, but has been essentially not been driven nearly at all for several months.

Aside from waiting for it to fail completely, I don't know where to start.
