Dashboard Gauge Lights sometimes on sometimes off

My dashboard gauges are black most of the time, making them difficult/impossible to read at night. Sometimes they light up, but most of the time they are completely dark. I've tried switching the lights from Automatic (A) to On, as well as the interior light wheel, but nothing works.

Because they are on some of the time, I do not believe a fuse is the problem. Any help that can be provided would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you,

BMontana

I have a 2000 300m that the dash lights blink and brighten and dim and sometimes the dome lights com on. Any help? I don't readily have the VIN available. 3.5 high output.

Sounds like a headlight switch issue replace that and go from there.

I have exactly the same problem in my 2002 300M as described in the original message in this thread. Some times the gauge light is on, sometimes off. No flickering, does not seem to be the diming switch or the main light switch. Other things illuminated like the analog clock works and the diming control can control the clock illumination when the gauge light is out.
