P0700 Error on 2002 300M
 

Purchased Dec 2005 with 44k miles, now has 88k miles. Transmission was under warranty and replaced by Chrysler in Dec 2006. Car has been well maintained and all work done by Chrysler. (oil changes, tune ups, 60k mile maintenance, tires etc. - only major problem was the transmission) Now one week after paying it off and six months of unemployment the transmission is giving a problem. Getting P700 error code.

Car drags and won't change gears once it hits second gear. Honestly can't afford the repair but is $2000.00 reasonable to correct this? Also need a mechanic in Ft Lauderdale that won't take advantage of a single, unemployed female. Help!!!

700 is stored in Engine control module, and indicates that there is a code present in the TCM...(Trans control module).

Most OBD scans do NOT go far enough in depth to read NON EMISSION Codes, but there will be one there.....You need the trans code before going any further.....

My suggestion to you, is take the first 100 bucks of that 2000, and have someone pull the trans codes, and give you a PROPER diagnosis....700 Tells you something that you already know....There is a problem with the TRANS....

Now, ...Sit back, take a deep breath and dont panic until you have all the facts....:) This can range anywhere from low fluid, to a blown fuse, to an overhaul, and everywhere in between....

I have decided to take the car to the dealership for proper diagnosis. Also, I apologize if my post offended anyone it was not my intention. There are good and bad in every profession. Will just bite the bullet and let dealer continue servicing the car as its a great car. Again thank you both!

Anyway......I will make my assumptions, and inform you that...

As a dealership tech, I have seen dishonesty, I have seen incompetence, Ive seen Blatant stupidity, AND ..I have seen the Guys who take their profession as a source of pride. We arent all thieves, and this is just like the lawyer , or the doctor, or the butcher....Its a PROFESSION.... And I dont get offended all that easily...

Djinn, really want to thank you for your reply to my post. I took your suggestion and went to a transmission specialist. I went to Aamco and found out the problem is withe solenoid (sp?) and they needed replacing. Total cost $475!

Update on P0700 Error
 

On last Friday, I took the cat back to Aamco to have the repair done. The solenoid pack was put in along with new filter and fluids...total cost $580. Picked up the car around 4pm and at 1:52 am the engine.light came on and the same dragging started again. I have an appointment to take the car back this.morning. I can't help but.to.think that the work that was completed was not required because the car is doing the exact same thing. Mood: Not happy right now but hopeful.

what were the codes that they got from the TCM?

Well, I took the car back today and they said.I need or.rebuilt.transmission. The does is now P1776.
