Upgrading rear speakers, adding subwoofer in a '14 Town & Country
 

Our new '14 T&C Touring-L does not have the amp and subwoofer that only the Limited got (can't speak as to which Dodge versions got it). I was playing around with the sound fade/balance, and it's much richer in the front than it is in the back. I thought I might replace the rear 6x9's and add a sub in the stock location, and add an amp to power the new speakers, leaving the rest stock.

For 6x9's, I've read about a couple options that fit easily.

For the sub, one can get the stock sub, new or used, for around $100, and it is branded Infinity. Is it worth sending up to 200 watts to the stock sub, or should I still use the stock sub enclosure, and put in something that can handle a bit more power? It looks like an 8" sub, probably a shallow mount.

I'm assuming that the stock amp has connections that are hard to duplicate or utilize if the stock harness does not include the connections.

Any thoughts? I'd definately avoid adding a sub enclosure that would need to sit somewhere other than the stock location.

Did you ever do this. There is very limited info on upgrading speakers on this board.

Now I don't know how much of this will apply to your T&C. It's interesting on the Pacifica has no external Infinity badging. Does the T&C have different versions of amp? The Pacifica has three a 100 or 120 watt driving 6 speakers, a 200 watt driving 7 speakers and a 385 watt driving 8.

This is what I've done concerning my '06 Pacifica. Mine came equipped with the 7 channel amp which is 5.1. I looked through Ebay and several Pacificas in salvage yards (LKQ mainly). I found the 8 channel amp and subwoofer in the same car. I got them both for a steal and then installed them. I was worried whether the stock harness would have to be modified but it didn't. All was plug and play. Then I changed out the back door speakers to Pioneer 6.5". I was apble to remove the factory speaker and still use the mounting cage. The 8 channel amp splits the rear signal thus the back door speakers are more mid base. The separate tweeter of the Pioneer does make a difference over the stock Infinity but otherwise no big difference. I would imagine being Infinty speakers already they are more eficent than stock speakers once were. I have found the front and back door 6.5" speakers are the same part number. I wish I had looked at the door speakers of the car I got the amp & sub out of to se if they are the same part number as the ones in mine. They probably are but just a curiousity.
