01 front end steering noise
 

I have a 2001 Sebring 4 door with a horrible noise coming from the front end. The noise is worst when your turn the steering wheel(left or right). Over some major bumps you can hear the noise but it is usually quiet. To me the noise sounds exactly like two pieces of styrofoam being rubbed together. The car only have 20,000 miles on it so I doubt that there is anything that is worn out. From what some people have told it, it could be the control arms or some type of bushing. I'm curious if anyone else has experienced this problem and whether or not it is expensive to fix or if I could fix it myself easily? Thanks for you respones!!

Did you ever get the noise solved? I have the same noise and don't know where it is coming from.

check the part that covers up the battery location. Its got a bunch of plastic pegs in it and a ton have broke on mine and it can give a little rattle sometimes.

I had the same problem but didn't reply until I located what was causing the trouble. It turned out to be the front swaybar bushings on the left front side were worn.After replacing them the problem stopped. Not a terribly expensive fix. Cost me about 30.00 for the bushings and 1 hour labour.

If you suspect that your bushings may be causing noise, you can often confirm that by spraying them with soapy water. If the noise goes away for a while, then you probably have found the problem. Squirting oil in there will not cure the problem though it may cause the noise to go away for a while. The oil will accelerate the deterioration of the rubber.
