Motor died, so swaped out the motor and the shop said it needed a new flex plate and that is causing it not to idle right or something. Has anyone ever heard of this,they think it is just the tranny, I think it could be a timing issue, i am mostly into hondas so any hope would be very helpful please

take it to them and have them repair what ever the issue. IF there was no issue b4 such as that and did they get a junk yard engein or a new one or remain?? to many issues could be to blame they need to take care of it

 

I've got a similar problem and am getting similar answers. My question is, what is a flex plate and why would it fail?

 

a flex plate is a fly wheel the part that transfers the engine power to the tranny and also has the teeth to allow the starter to move the engine on startup.

 

Ok, that's the what. So, are there common ways that the flex plate fails? And are there any unique symptoms / noises?

 

car wont start.wont run ,makes a hell of a noise. Rough idle humm unless its loose or starting to break or missing teeth
