02 Sebring LXI - Wont Start

I am helping out a friend - trying to get his car fixed.
2002 Sebring LXI - Turns over but no spark.

Been to the local chrysler dealer -" not getting any readings from the other side of the firewall. We could spend 10 hrs. hunting down wire problems and the car is not worth it, you need to talk to our sales dept. about a new car."

Problem started about 2 months ago. Car would just die then start right back up. Then would have hell keeping started at stop light, etc. Then went to started it - fired off - died and never started again. It has had the distrib/coil pack and ignition????

Any IDEAS.........???????

always state engine 2.5 v-6 with 188,000 miles
this type of info ismost helpful

1st thing is crank sensor, on flywheelend of engine toward front .just on top of tranny nearegr valve if 2.5 engine that is. siplest to test with an OHM meter and a magnet.

Does fuel pump pressure up when key is turned on?

Find another car & swap some key componets, might not be that easy to find someone that will let you do that however.

Would these tests be something a dealer would do? Or are they just trying to sell a new car?

yes the dealer should know enough to check fuses key switch and follow power from the battery all they way to the igntion coil.
Again i don't know what they did or did not do. you are provideing very little info info and it's very difficlut to diagonse to over E-mail.

Is it a failry reputable dealer of some size or is it a one horse town dealership.
Dealerships don't give you anything for a car and pennies on the dollar for a car that Doesn't work,OFTEN some dealers willprey on people with dead cars.

I go to car dealers as a last resort, but in some cases they are the best people for the job. chrylser dealer would likely be costly but htye should be able to find the probelm in 4 -6 hrs max, then it may cost for the repairs,, a wire har ness isseu could get VERY ugly but it's not the most leily casue of the problem. and even here if it's a good mechanic with internet help and tech bulleting chrysler help they could get to the root cause quicker.
Your in a tough spot, i wish i were close by and i would look at the car and likley pay you more than the dealer ever would, but i'm in Mpls MN and gaslone costs these days.
