1999 JXI AC Problem
My AC went out last year. I had Pep Boys replace the Freon with dye. The AC worked for about 2 or 3 weeks. I contacted Pep Boys about the problem. They said that they did not see a leak when they replaced the Freon. They said it must be the AC compressor.
I waited till this spring to try to correct this problem. Long story short, I had a retired master mechanic look at it. He said lets first add some Freon. He added about a half a pound. He said the compressor appeared to be working fine. The AC worked great for about 3 weeks. Then, it quit blowing cold. Any suggestions? |
The area to suspect when you can't see a leak is the evaporator core inside the plenum. Unfortunately, that's buried in the dash and requires removal of the whole instrument panel to get to. If you can find somebody with an inspection camera or a freon sniffer, he might be able to look in there and verify the leak before you tear the whole thing apart.
