1999 Sebring JXI stalls while driving and while idling
My 1999 Sebring JXI convertible stalls while it's idle and while I'm driving it. It is at a mechanic and has been there for a month now. They can't figure out what's wrong with it. The Sparks plugs, spark plug wires, distributor, crankshaft position sensor, timing belt and water pump have all been replaced. The egr valve, the flywheel, map sensor, have been checked and are good. Any vacuum leaks have been fixed. When it stalls it refuses to start back up unless it has been sitting for a while. When I tried to start it after a stall it would crank and crank and crank but not turn over and start. The mechanics don't wanna give up on it but they can't figure out what's wrong with it. They said they've been on multiple forums with no luck. Any ideas what could be wrong with it?

Hi there hippiestokes,
I have 1996 JXi convertible and had the same issue. Problem in my car was the ASR ( Auto Shut Down relay) and DTC test gave me the error of communication between engine control and gearbox control. Both issues were fixed by replacing the ASR relay. Located in the relay box in the engine compartment and cost only 7 Euros. No issues after that :) I suppose that the mechs have check this ?? |
You need to find a mechanic that knows what he is doing instead of a parts changer.
