2.7 & manual trans swap

I bought and rebuilt a 2003 sebring gtc with a 5 speed. The car was undriveable when I got it so I didn't know about the other gremlins in the car. Then to top it off, I damaged the driver door pretty badly while towing it home.

Mechanically it runs great. Just about everything else about the car is crap though.

I see plenty of nice cars with bad engines on Craigslist, etc... I know computers, cam sprockets, are different depending on year, but what about the manual transmission? Mine is a 2003. I found a good 2005 with 2.7 auto transmission with rod knock.

Would I be able to switch the whole front engine/drive assembly with the computer?

"Would I be able to switch the whole front engine/drive assembly with the computer? "

I assume you are asking if you can put your engine and transmission into the other vehicle.

The difficulties you might encounter are the need for a clutch pedal and mechanism and possible incompatibility with the body computer. The computers (engine, transmission and body) all work together and I would expect that a computer that suddenly finds itself in an environment it was not designed for will have "hiccups", probably major hiccups at best.

Keep looking. Standard trans cars are pretty rare and getting more rare every day. It's a lot of work and when you're all done, it'll still be an old car with old car's problems. Might be time to just move on.
