2000 sebring conv. starter won't engage.

I bought a 2000 sebring conv. It started for about a week and then all the lights on the dash come on (like they should) just when you turn the key the starter doesn't engage. All the obvious has been changed or checked IE..new batt, starter, relays, all wires checked, it IS the correct KEY for the car. ....I've been leaning towards the immobilizer does any one know any thing about this how to fix it how to bypass it...I can't find any details about it on-line....I don't have the remote unlock for it but it has the gray original key. I'm an Aircraft mechanic with a lot of years with autos also.....but this has kicked my butt......I'm about ready for the ultimate fix......(gallon of gas and match......)

If it was the immobilizer, the car would start, then stall out after two seconds.

Have you checked the operation of the key switch itself?

I haven't tried that yet...What is a good way to check that.....besides swapping one out....

Use your volt-ohmmeter. Yellow line from the switch should be energized. Also, could be the transmission neutral safety switch. It is supposed to prevent the starter from engaging unless the transmission is in park or neutral.

Ignition switch is ok. I double checked the neutral/park switch it's ok...and checked all the wires to the starter and any to do with that system. The starter relay is clicking (engaging) ...just can't get any voltage to the starter. And it's a new starter I took it back out to check it............ All the lights a buzzers go off but still no engine turn over.... I'm about ready to change all the wires from the relay down....any more ideas anything would help...

If you have voltage to the starter relay but no voltage to the starter then you have narrowed the problem down to the relay or the wires in between. Do you have voltage coming out of the relay?

There's a black and red wire from the power distribution center (underhood fusebox) to the starter that comes from the relay. That should be energized. The starter has an internal relay fed by that black and red wire. The main current for the starter comes in via a red 6 gauge (fat) wire from the battery to the starter.
