2001 bogging down at low speeds
Between 15 and 20 mph it seems to bog down like its not getting enough fuel. Higher speeds it runs normally. I just tried to it in park and revving the motor up and it still bogged down but not as bad. It only seems to do it when attempting to take off slower, when taking of faster it doesn't bog down, only when trying to take off normally. I have checked plugs and wires, they seem to be OK, i put in some fuel injector cleaner and no performance change. The fuel filter is in the tank as far as i am aware so changing that is out of the question unless that is the problem. I am not a mechanic so responses in "just a normal guy" are better :D. Thanks for any help.

What engine are we talking about here? Have you checked for codes by hooking up a code reader?
|
Its a 2.4L and nope i haven't hooked up a code reader because i don't have one or know what one is.

Could be a weak fuel pump but the fact that it runs well at higher speeds make that less likely.
"Codes" are generated by the engine computer when it detects something wrong. The codes are stored and can by read with appropriate equipment. There's a connector under the dash near the steering column. Many auto parts stores are willing to hook up a code reader for free in the hope that they can sell you some parts based on what they find. Try AutoZone. (not in California) For a fee of maybe $75-90 a dealer will hook up his more sophisicated equipment to check for codes and other data anomalies. Often they will apply the fee toward the repair if you choose to have them fix the car. What did you do to check the plugs and wires? If those plugs are original they are probably due for replacement. |
