2002 Sebring LX - Radiator Drain Plug
 

Hi there, as dumb as this sounds....

How the heck do you get at the drain cock?
If I was to go to a garage to flush my rad it will cost $170!
Well I'd rather do it myself for the cost of the coolant.
Only problem is getting to the drain cock...

Anyone have any tips?

I'm having the same problem with the drain cock....no idea.

I've read to be sure to have a backup plug because they break easy

In the past, I have used these:

If you can get to a heater hose, you can use this to flush the whole system. Be careful, though: City water pressure can be as high as 90 psi, compared to the 16 psi your water pump seals were designed for. So flush the system slowly, just crack the hose valve enough to get the water flowing gently through the overflow of the kit.

When you are finished flushing, you add coolant and push the water out until coolant starts coming out.

Don't touch the bleed screw on a 2.7L engine to bleed the air. It's a metal fitting in a plastic housing and the whole fitting can spin in the plastic when you put a wrench on the screw. Just let the system bleed itself through a couple of warm-up and cool-down cycles and add coolant as necessary.

Clogged radiator drain 2002 Sebring
 

I am able to turn the radiator drain on my 2002 Chrysler Sebring LXi 2.7 engine ninety degrees. NOTHING drains. I have tried turning it back 1/8 a turn to remove it -- it does not come out. I have tried blowing air through the drain hole (at least I believe it is the drain hole located directly below the drain petcock). No help. I finally resorted to removing the lower radiator hose to drain it, but that does not completely drain the radiator. I flushed the system and put in new coolant. I am just looking for a solution to the clogged drain. I have changed the coolant every two or three years since the car was new. This is the first time I have had trouble with draining the radiator.

Dont use the drain it will simply leak after words Undo the lower radiator hose and drain it that way.

Well, that is how I did drain the radiator (lower hose). I would have liked to been able to drain it more completely from the drain plug. Thank you for the heads up on the drain plug's tendency to leak after it is opened. I will keep an eye on it -- I turned it to "open" several times and attempted to remove it, to no avail. I think I got the system pretty well cleaned out before adding new coolant. Thanks again!
