2005 repair manual work for 2006?
 
Wondering if anyone would know if there are any major/minor changes to the 2.7L V-6 DOHC between 2005 and 2006 year models. I can't find a repair manual for 2006 Sebring, but however the 2005 edition is available. I will be removing the intake and valve covers along with the oil pan. I'm a little worried torq specs may be different or some slight variation between the two years. Thanks for any help.

2006 Sebring Touring Sedan, hardtop. I appologize, I should have phrased the question differently. I was wondering about any differences with the 2.7 engine between 05 and 06. Would it be O.K to work off a 2005 Sebring (Haynes) manual.

Yes, that manual will work for what you want to do. Can I ask why you are removing the v/c's and oil pan?

It was time to replace the PCV valve (30,000k). When I removed the valve, saw that it was gunked up with burnt sludge. I had previously thought the engine might have a sludge issue, well known for the 2.7's. It turned out to be "soft sludge" created from many short trips where the oil could not get to high enough temp to evaporate condensation. However, the PCV was caked with burnt sludge, so being curious, and as crude as this may sound...I fished some wire into the PCV port and down into oil cap opening. Each time I brought the wire out, it was coated with sludge. I am not comfortable with performing an engine flush, because I do not know how much build-up is in my engine. The valve cover can not be removed without removing the intake to see the condition!! To much engine sludge + engine flush = sure death to the motor. Something is going to get clogged. I want to extract as much sludge as possible by hand from the heads, pan, and pump screen before I entertain the idea of an in oil flush additive. Yes, the motor is still under warranty. The dealership will only perform a flush, that is their warranty fix. If the engine blows...oh well...owner neglagence. Want to place it safe. Hopefully, removing the intake is not an extremely difficult job.
