2006 sebring 2.7 swap for 2002 2.7?

I'm here because I have just been presented with an excellent summer project. Only problem is I don't know where to start. here's the situation, The mrs. have a 2006 sebring with a 2.7 engine That has a severe knock. My sister has a 2002 sebring that was totaled due to being T-boned. Engine and transmission good 88000 miles. Is there a way I can swap the 2002 engine (along with ecu, tranny, wiring harness and other misc parts) into the 2006 sebring. Any help or input much appreciated. Keep in mind money or parts are not an issue being that I have a complete donor car.

I'm pretty sure the 2004 and later 2.7's had some differences in both the engine and transmission sensors. Your biggest problem will be with the ECU. Since they are VIN coded you probably won't be able to use the 2002 ECU and your 2004 ECU may not like the 2002 engine. I'm sure someone else can be a little more specific on the differences. You can probably use just the engine block if you wanted to swap over everything else. I would suggest that if you can do the swap that you install a new water pump/timing chain/tensioner kit. 88K miles is getting to that stage where the water pumps can start leaking. It's certainly much easier with the engine out of the car than after you install it.

I'so it's not impossible just going to be way more work than a direct swap?
