2007 Sebring 2.4 to 2.7 swap
 

I searched the forums and did not see anything on this, which might give me my answer. My son wrecked his 07 Sebring with a 2.7. For months we have been looking for a 2.7 that needed a motor. We have not found any within 4 hours of our house. I have found a few with the 2.4 engine in them. We can switch the bodywork around, but his has a salvage title. With the cracked windshield, "enhanced" PA state inspection, and title work to get it back on the road we are looking at $600 to $700. That is a big incentive to switch motors to one with a clean title. Are the motor and transmission mounts the same for the 2.4 and 2.7? I figured we would just switch engines and transmissions. I figured we would need to switch the computer and use the wiring harness from the 2.7. Does anyone have any ideas if it would work?

Not sure why you'd want to replace a reliable 4 banger with a 6 cylinder known for bad head gaskets.

In case you didn't know...that 2.4L was designed by Lamborghini for Chrysler back in the 80-90's. Its a reliable engine and they still use a variant of it to this day. Its a DOHC hi-revving engine with a pretty sweet gear ratio, easy to maintain. I use 5w30 synthetic blend and high octane gasoline. I would never put a V6 in it, those engines are known for head issues.

I wanted to do it, because I have a running 2.7. I know they are not the most reliable engine. The water pump went on my son's 2000 intrepid with a 2.7, but it had 240,000 miles on it so I can't complain. He was not watching the gauges and it over heated and cracked the heads.

We decided to get the sebring and just switch the body panels to the wrecked one. We got there and they guy put the wrong engine in the listing. It has a 2.7 so we will just switch them. He said it over heated to the point that the frost plugs blew out. He had them replaced and when they put new antifreeze in, it was going straight into the oil. I'm guessing the block is cracked. We are hoping to start it next week. While we have the motor out, we are going to replace the water pump.
