'96 JXi dash problems

Hi All:
New to the forum and new to my 96 JXi convertible. The dash in this car is all but dead. The oil and ABS light seem to funtion properly. The brake and air bag light are always illuminated when the car is on. All other lights are permanently off. All gauges are non functional. Everything else on the car works as expected except for the a/c which may or may not be related (i havent had a chance to check for power and to see if the system is empty).

My initial thought is a bad BCM. Am I on the right track? Can these just be swapped with another or are they coded to the car somehow?

It may be the BCM, but maybe not. When you're not sure, don't start by replacing the most expensive thing. Try Googling "instrument cluster repair" and see what comes up. There are places where you can send in your cluster for repair or replacement.
And yes, the BCM must be programmed for the car.
The fact that the brake and airbag lights are on may also mean that you have problems with those systems. That what those lights are there for.

FYI for anyone who might have this problem in the future. The problem was the instrument cluster. I got another one from the pick and pull today for $15 and everything works properly.

Good job, Steve. Sure beats spending hundreds for a new BCM. So put the top down and enjoy the spring weather. Post up some pix.
