97 sebring conv. emission code P0201

hi forum folks,
i have a 97 seibring conv. jx, 2.5 liter v6. It runs fine, but the "service engine soon" lite came on. I had it scanned, the code was P0201{Injector #1 output driver not responding properly}.
the part store gave me the price of a new injector approx $125. He suggested and i tried an injector cleaner first. After 400 miles i disconnected the battery to clear the code but the " "service engine" lite stayed on. I don"t know if the code is the same. it's no problem to have the parts store scan it again. It's about timeto change the spark plugs. The intake manifoldneeds removed to do this. I'll have access to the injector at that time. Has anyone had a similarproblem? Can you give me some ideas. thanks in advance ed:eek:

No, I haven't discovered that one yet, however I may well be on my way to sharing this problem with you. I just don't have the code yet. But my issue is similar.

I did however find some information about the resetting of that code. The computer should reset the MIL after three successful ignition cycles. Until then the MIL stays lit. Also, there is a DTC data storage in there somewhere that can tell you the conditions at the time of the failure. Can be useful. Additionally, after 40 successful warm up cycles the history should clear. Other than that, reset the PCM with the code reader.

Here is a link to the above info.

the parts store did reset the codes po201 and p0301 with the OBDII. It stayed off for several trips. It came back with the symptom of the engine shaking as if the injector had finally failed. I'm goin to take off the intake manifold to have access toinjector #1, and see what i find. at the parts store he suggested the injector should read 3 to 6 ohm normally. thank you for the feedback i'm open to any all further help. ed:eek:

i took cylinder #1'sinjector out. it's coil read the same as the other injectors. i changed the wires and plugs and reinstalled the intake manifold. the problem remained. i thought the ECU computer was bad, so i replaced it. still the problem remained. my mechanic put a pressure guage on the fuel rail and as each cylinder fired the pressure dropped, except cylinder 1# no pressure drop. he replaced #1's injector this fixed the problem! best of luck ed:)

Too bad you went to the expense of a new computer in the process. Lesson for all of us is replace the cheaper stuff first.
