97 sebring JX shifting problem

Hello everyone, I own a 97 sebring. I started having problems with this car the first day I bought it. The car started to make a whining noise when I accelerate. It then would rev high rpms then shift. The longer I drove it the worse the shifting became. I let the car sit for a month after that I had it towed to a mechanic.

Here is the work that was done.
1. Battery replaced
2. Instrument cluster replaced
3. Cam position sensor replaced
4. Map sensor replaced
5. Idle air control replaced
6. Idler pully and belt tensioner replaced

Once I got the car back, I drove it for 1 day. Then the next day it started to do the same thing it was doing the first day i bought the car. The car started to make a winning noise and then the rpms would go rely high then shift. The car is not safe to drive because of this.

If anyone knows what could be wrong, I would much appreciate some advice thank!

You are describing a transmission problem when you say that the rpm's go way up when it shifts. None of the things you "fixed" have anything to do with the transmission.
Start by getting a new mechanic. One who knows about transmissions and who has the equipment necessary to read transmission fault codes.

Yea your right. After taking it back to the mechanic, they told me that something from my transmission is clogging a filter. I am told that I need a transmission rebuild.

Get a second opinion before you spend that kind of money. Not saying you don't need it, just that you want to be sure.
