97 Sebring starter repacement

I am trying to replace the starter w/ no book or diagram to go by and currently picking up a book isn't an option. My largest concern is the spot where the wire is atttached. I broke the circular plastic covering when I was trying to get to the bolt... I hope that makes a little sense as I'm never up on the correct terms.

Thanks!
Angela

RE: 97 Sebring starter repacement

Well, in any case, I hope you have disconnected the negative battery cable extremely important for safety with this job.

I don't know if you are talking about a convertible and also what engine you have. I have the convertible with the 2.5 engine and I just changed my starter a couple weeks ago. The plastic thing you are talking about sounds like the insulating shield around the large positive cable that attaches to the solenoid on the side of the starter motor with a nut. No problem if you broke that taking it off because the new starter will include a replacement. Let me know if you're talking about something else.

Sounds like we have the same car. Yes, mine is a convertible 6 cyl. 2.5.

You've just answered my question perfectly! The word I was looking for was solenoid... What a space!

Thanks so much!
Angela
