98 Sebring

Pardon my ignorance as I'm not familiar with these cars, though I recently did some work on a 99 300m 3.5. I found a 98 Sebring 2.5 that is in good shape but has an engine problem. From research I found the automatic came with a V6 2.5,is this a derivative of the 2.7?

No. Different engine.

Is it as problematic as the 2.7 seems to be?

I own two cars with the 2.7 and have had no serious engine problems with over 200,000 miles on the cars. The 2.7 has a timing chain rather than a timing belt. It also does not have a distributor, another source of trouble for the 2.5-3.0 engines.
If you are thinking of dropping a 2.7 into that car, forget it. The computer, wiring, plumbing, exhaust are all not going to match up. Not sure about the engine mounts.

Thanks,I wasn't going to swap, just wondered if the 2.7 was a bored and stroked 2.5 engine.I do have a 99 Intrepid 2.7[my wife's niece's]sitting in the yard that has a "blown head gasket".Unfortunately a limb fell caving in the roof and busting the rear window. Why do you see so many 2.7's with problems, lack of proper maintenance? I have found a 99 Intrepid 2.7 for cheap and had thought of using the two to make one.I'm mechanically incline and have built half a dozen engines with good success.I was thinking of putting something together for my gran daughter.
