ABS Light help
Ok I'm stupid let's get that out of the way.:o I pulled the ignition module harness without pulling the battery first. I remembered later and pulled the battery to be safe. Everything is back together but I now have an ABS light. Is there a way to reset this like clearing DTC in the ECU? Or do I HAVE to take it to the dealer?
Any help would be appreciated.:D |
Oops forgot to mention it is a 2001 LXI 4 door

Have you driven the car over 15 mph since the light came on?
|
Yes I took it for a test drive probably up to 35 mph or so. I also started and stopped twice. I noticed the light was off on the second start for about 5 seconds or so but about the same time I started rolling it came on.

Scan tool time. Get some DTCs. :) Go from there. |
I have the software and cable (scan tool) for the engine and there are no trouble codes. Is there a special tool for the ABS? If so do you know where I can get the software and if I need another cable also.

The DRB III scan tool can read ABS codes. It'll set you back about 6 grand. Or you could go to your friendly, local dealer and pay him $75 to hook it up and tell you what's wrong. If you choose to have him fix the problem, they will usually not bill you for the diagnostics.
ABS systems are complex and sensitive. If you don't have the equipment and know-how to fix them properly, you are probably better off hiring professional help to do it right. |
