ABS Wire And Light Issues

Hello, I am a lurker here but have a problem I can't seem to clear.

My wife took her 2002 Sebring 2.7 convertible to a local mechanic (over my objections) for new struts, upper and lower control arms.

The mechanic broke the drivers side ABS wire causing the ABS light to come on.

She brought it back to him and instead of replacing the ABS sensor with the wire attached to it, he stripped back the wire and taped the disconnected wires together.

That lasted a week and the ABS light came back on.

I bought a new ABS sensor and installed it yesterday but the ABS still stays on.

In fact my freaking wife pointed out that instead of the ABS light coming on after the car moves a little bit the ABS light comes on and stays on start up of the car.

I did the key dance to see what codes the car is throwing, a p1684, showing it had a dead battery recently.

Is there any reset on this ABS light?

Could the new ABS sensor be bad?

Could another sensor be bad?

I have a continuity tester, can I check the sensor for continuity?

Is there an ohm valve of the sensor or just continuity.

Does it have continuity when stationary or when the wheel is is rotating?

Thanks,

Brian

Ok I feel like that LiMu Emu pecking at a pane of glass when Doug says after biting his sandwich "he'll figger it out".

I took her car to town today, the ABS light when out and has stayed off.

I guess driving her car off the ramps and into the garage last night was not enough for the ABS to acclimate.

Thanks

the ABS system usually clears itself after the problem is corrected after you have drove about 20 feet, I believe your talking about the wheel speed sensor, should have one at each wheel.. these produce ac currant and have to be tested with a DVOM
