AC comes on when lights turned on

I have a 2001 sebring Convertable and the AC compressor comes on and blowes out thru the defrost when i turn on my head lights. I'v tried to recalibrate the control panel but that doesn't work. As long as my lights are off the control panel works fine. Also when lights are on my defrost doesn't work. This is about to drive me crazy. Any advise whould be welcomed.

Is your battery in good shape? A low battery can cause weird things to happen in these cars where everything is run through the computer. If the headlights are straining an already weak battery, that might be part of the problem.

I don't believe the recalibration maneuver works in the 2001 model. But I think it's possible to initiate a recalibration sequence by disconnecting the battery for a minute or so.

Yes the battery is new. I'm going to try to disconnect the battery and give that a try. Thanks for your imput.

I disconnected the battery and waited a few minutes. When I connected the battery back the ac still comes on when i turn on the head lights.

The body control module is involved in the headlight operation for the delay-off feature and for the high beams. As far as I can tell, it shouldn't be part of the normal headlight operation. It is, of course part of the heater-A/C control.
My best guess is that the body control module has some sort of internal issue. It's a computer so who knows what is going on.

Found the problem, The AC control panel was defective. I went to a salvage yard and purchased a used panel and it works great. Now i have heat when lights are on.
