Air Conditioning on drivers side is only cold when engine is hot!?!

My 2011 3.6L 200 has a weird HVAC problem. When I start the engine the passenger side air conditioning vents go cold immediately, but the driver's side pumps hot air until the engine thermostat opens and then they go cold as well. It's a single climate zone system on the controls but I have heard that the plumbing in the dash is for dual zone. Anyone got any ideas on what might be causing these symptoms?

Being that the 200 and Dodge Avenger are the same cars mechanically... from what I have learned from a forum for those is low R-134a in the A/C system will display this condition. Have you ever had the A/C system checked? depending on the climate where you live, it would be wise to have it checked/tested at least every 2 yrs..

Thanks REBEL59. I will certainly try topping up the R-134a, I had discounted low fill since the passenger side was working, and without a decent schematic of the ducting and controls I couldn't work out how one side could be good and the other not, especially with the apparent engine thermostat interaction. Do you have any idea why this would be the case? Not going to stop me trying your good advice, but I'd be intrigued if anyone knows WHY.

Guess one could chalk it up to be "the nature of the beast" to show that SYMPTOM. Next it to find that CAUSE of a slow leak of the R-134a, it is right near 8 yrs. old now, and a long time with no service of the a/c system being done since new.

Hi ccunnell,

If you decide to have this looked at by the dealer, let us know. We're available via direct message and would be happy to get this escalated for further handling.
