Airbag light
 

I need help. My airbag light just went on and when it did it sounded like the airbag tried to deploy but it didn't and now it sounds like there is something in my steering column just rolling around can anyone help me with this? I was pulling into a parking space when it happened. and i didn't hit anything.

possible clock spring but with out the codes cant be sure.

Yeah, sounds a lot like the "clock spring"-- especially the part about the noise in the steering column. The clock spring is a part that sits between the steering column and steering wheel-- it has a ribbon-like wire inside that is coiled up like a clock spring allowing the wire to connect between the steering column and the steering wheel without breaking or losing contact when you turn the wheel. Sometimes they do break though and there is likely an extended warranty on it if you take it to the dealer (you'll have to double check with them of course).

thanks guys but is there a reason that it has my airbag light on though? and how do i get that taken care of? because i didn't buy my sebring from the dealer so there isnt an extended warranty and i bought it as is. would there be a way for me to fix the clock spring myself?

Assuming it's the clock spring, the airbag light would be on because the airbag wires in the clock spring are either broken or shorted. Bottom line is that the airbag will not deploy if you were in an accident.

It's really not that hard to replace the clock spring-- it should take about 15 minutes or less. The part costs about $60-70. So even if you pay a shop to do it it shouldn't be too bad. (It's pretty easy to do yourself too if you take time to read the manual and precautions.)

Check on the warranty anyway-- because of the potential liability for the failed clock spring, Chrysler may replace it for free. I know they do this on the minivans.
