Battery/Voltage Light

I have a 2004 Sebring with 90K. Issue with battery/voltage light coming on when driving and the odomoter lights & radioflickering. When I shut the car off and turn in back on the light is off and everything fine. A few days later same thing happened. Any ideas on the cause/solution?

RE: Battery/Voltage Light

Could be a failing alternator. Could be a loose wire or ground. Might be a loose drive belt. I'd check the wiring first. It's cheap and easy.
The charging voltage is actually controlled by the powertrain control module (engine computer), so if there's a problem there, it may be throwing codes. You might want to see if there are any codes.

RE: Battery/Voltage Light

Start with cleaning your battery terminals. If they have a white scale inside the connection it causes very erratic voltages. It is very difficult to remove, and you may wish to replace instead of cleaning them.

Also, jiggle, wiggle, and shake (gently) all of your wiring harness connectors, especially those mounted to items on the firewall, PDC, and PCM. Moisture is an enemy!

If it continues, pull the alternator and have it tested.
