I have a situaion with a 97 sebring lxi coup.

Blowing Engine 30a Fusable Link "only on accelerate in drive with load."

I can accelerate without a load "in neutral" no problem .. engine does not seem to be moving around enough to indicate broken mounts which could cause a short. I changes the fuel relay and for some reason i could accelerate without popping the the 30a fuse, enough to get the car home, However turned the car off for 15 mins tried it again .. and poof back to blowing fuses on accelerate with load. The fuel relay my be burning up causing this. Dont know..

Need diamograms or any idea's ..

The fuel pump and relay circuit wiring diagram for your car happens to be shown on page 12-34 of the Haynes Manual (#25040) but it's pretty sketchy. You may have a bad fuel pump if it keeps blowing that 30 amp fuse under load. Could also be a wiring problem. The car is now 14 years old and getting long in the tooth, so it could be any number of things. On the plus side, removal of the fuel pump is accomplished by accessing it via an access panel under the rear seat: no need to drop the fuel tank.

Yes I have entertained the idea of an over old over amping fuel pump..

Funny thing is a couple of years ago I did drop the fuel tank then afterwards realized that access was through the rear seat.

After futher and closer examination, I notice the the engine is rocking a few inches further then I originally thought when under real load, looks like the cheaper motor/tranny mounts don't last very long.
But again it is strange that after replacing the Relays .. i was able to torque and engine as normal and drive though about 11 miles of city to get it home. then afterwards the problem returned. if it is the fuel pump , it must be destroying the relays causing this malfunction.

Youre on the right track......

Just something to consider.....Look at the exhaust manifolds, and the wiring harnesses around them......Unless I'm mistaken, The O2 sensor heaters use the Main relay for power supply as well....

While it is entirely possible, Typically, An electric fuel pump is not affected by engine TORQUE...It supplies Consistent pressure at all times, and does not ddepend upon engine speed or load to perform its function.....If it supplies 50 psi at idle, it will supply 50 psi at wide open throttle....The PCM corrects the injector pulse width to accomodate load.....Not the pump

If I remember correctly, I had a blown this same fusable link in the past, the cause was the upper exhaust manifold sensor connector this was the only short that I have ever noticed causing the 30A Engine fuse to blow.

In tests I have disconnected all O2 sensors and the condition still exists.

About the load factor on the fuel pump, it makes sense that the electric fuel pump is not affected by engine TORQUE. but if the relays themself are becoming damaged.. then?

I will have to examine further.. starting with the mount situation.. I replaced them about 2 years ago front/rear, I have an extra fuel pump laying around. Will try that as well..Also pull off the plenum and examine the harness at those locations along with the Alternator.

Ok, After procrastinating for 200 years .



I finally Replaced Front and Rear motor mounts. they were
prettybeat up.



First test Fuse did not short out , but felt a stumble and MIL came on, Trans did not **** out of first was in LIMP MODE.



checked codes p0700 and p1768 were preset. car did not blow fuse for 15 mins with any load. Erased Codes, came our of LIMP Mode and Car shifted fine no MIL , then.. Whammo .. on accelerate a weird stumble and FUSE BLOWN again at stop light! ?????????



I do notice because it was dark, that the light dim at take off, something is drawing alow of amps when a strong the load is applied to the trans

Just to be clear:confused:

The car Stumbles, like its missing... Right before the Fuse blows. It only happens from a dead stop at take off.:mad:

OK, Look like I may have solved this one, To make a long story short..

I replaced the fuel pump suspecting it may be the over amping culprit. I have tested the vehicle and since replacing the fuel pump there has been no surges on take off no blown fuse and seems to have more power..

so far so good!! :)
