A/C high/low valve caps
 

Anyone ever seen metal A/C caps with seals? My high side valve has as slow leak I just noticed after having an HVAC buddy pull a vacuum and recharge from an R134a tank. I have no idea if it leaked before and the cap (has seal), kept valve from leaking. Do these caps usually hold a seal with a leaking valve? I thought if a metal high side cap was available, it might be holds seal better??

No,....No.....and.....No.

If the valve is leaking, then it must be replaced. Granted, sometimes "Capping" it lessens the leak,But it was designed to keep dust and moisture out, not seal freon in.

As for metal caps......That is a No-No. If you have seen the corroded tire pressure sensors with the siezed on caps, it is the same principle. the aluminum reacts with the metallic cap and oxidizes. Then the pressurized freon cracks the oxidized aluminum, with absolutely no way back.

The leaky valve is on the high side discharge hose going from compressor to the condenser. Does the valve disconnect from the hose, or do I need that entire hose assy (with sensor)?

It seems there is a seperate part (with rubber ball) that goes between the main high side (compressor discharge) hose and an adapter on the OEM hose. Is this correct?

But unfortunately, their system does not tie this part to my car. Their system says this Murray p/n 59946 is for a FORD. Would this part be the same for Ford and CHrysler? O'Reilly's system does not call out either a low or high side port valve/adapter for my car.

Would this OEM adapter unscrew (after reclaiming R134) easily? Would the new adapter need any sealant or (anti seize) to be applied to the threads when installing?

I am very bummed to need to bug my HVAC buddy to do this job a second time. :o(

I just hope this is a universal thread. I mic'ed it at .465", so just over 7/16" and a hair under 12mm. Does this sound like what will screw into the Chrysler high side compressor discharge hose?
