A/C questions/help :)
 

1998 Crysler Sebring JXI 2.5L V6
Now that I have practically replaced every piece of the air conditioning system, with a rebuilt ac compressor, new receiver dryer, new expansion valve, new upper high pressure hose, and a few other parts such as o rings pag oil etc. evacuated the system and dryed it out with air dryer evac system.
The ac clutch doesn't want to engage when the switch is turned on? :mad: I have to take the alternator etc. back out again to do any testing Uggggghhhhh ok "I'm stuck"
I have read everything i could find about my 2.5L v6 ac system but nothing is making any sense yet...lol
I have never worked on a a/c system before by myself any help/advice would be appreciated:o

So the problemis that the clutch will not engage when the control calls for A/C. There are a lot of things that must happen for the clutch to engage. The pressure switch must read between certain upper and lower limits; certain temperature readings must be made and satisfied; the clutch relay must work, the computer must give the proper signals, the wiring must carry the signals. Any interruption in the process means the system doesn't work.
It's a complex system. Get a good manual and systematically check out as much of the system as you can.

Is this the same vehicle??????

Look closely at the wiring harness for the compressor....if the serp belt ripped open a cover, then it is just as likely to have taken some wiring with it.

In the underhood fuse block, you will find a relay marked, A/C, or A/C COMP. take the relay out and flip it over...You will notice numbers stamped next to the "LEGS" ..(85, 86, 87, 87a, and 30).... using a paper clip, in the fuse box, "JUMPER" 87 + 30. the compressor should click on....if not we'll take it from there.

Have you recharged the system? If not the low pressure switch will stop the compressor from coming on.

Well...you arent done yet.....

You cant leave the paper clip in there.....

you may now start looking at PCM driver circuits, and power feeds and fuses.

What happens if you put the relay back in ????? does it still work???

I wasn't sure, but I thought I could add freon now? and possibly the low/high pressure switch would automatically start working and would be all done?? (I just assumed this would work) and I definitely don't want to rush anything at this point.... I will see what happens when the relay is reinstalled and report back!

The clutch doesn't engage with the a/c relay back in and the switch turned on, should i try to add freon? or find out why no power?

You mean it isnt charged yet????

The compressor WONT RUN unless there is pressure in the system.
