Can you tell me what this is..

Can you tell me what this is and if it goes in that hole next to it. I bought this car from a car dealership a few months ago I don't drive it all that much. I was looking under the hood and noticed it. Thanks for all help

This is what I'm talking about about in the picture above I guess I was kinda vague on what I was talking about in it. What is it.. anybody.

That is the intake air temperature sensor and yes it goes into the hole.

The blue piece should face the airflow so the air flows over the sensor. The first picture has the proper orientation of the sensor.
